Scarlet Begonias creates clean burning, long-lasting, all natural, 100% pure soy wax candles that produce genuine, fragrant aromas. Our hand-poured soy candles contain no paraffin wax, lead or animal products. Because of this, you'll get very little, if any, blackness on your candle container.

Why soy?

Soy is all-natural, non-toxic and biodegradable. Unlike petroleum-based candles, soy candles do not produce soot which blackens walls and adds toxic carcinogens into the air you breathe. Because of this, soy candles are safe for people with asthma and allergies.
Soy wax is made from pure plant material, therefore it cleans up easily with soap and water. Soy burns 2 to 3 times longer than petroleum based candles and they produce 95 percent less soot.
Soy candles do not increase the C02 levels in the atmosphere, so by burning them instead of petroleum based candles, you're reducing your carbon footprint!

Some facts about paraffin wax:
Soy candles that may be more expensive to purchase in the first place can be cheaper in the long run if they last sustainably longer than their counterparts, paraffin-based (usually mass-produced) candles. It's true Paraffin candles are less expensive, but they are also much lower in quality. Why? Paraffin is the byproduct (or leftover residue) of refined petroleum, and is the predominant wax used in commercial candle industry. Paraffin is basically the "bottom of the barrel" even after asphalt is extracted - it is the final byproduct in the petroleum refining chain. The leftover sludge is then refined and used to make candles. The soot given off from the burning of paraffin candles is the same as that given off by burning diesel fuel. Some of the air contaminants in paraffin fumes include toluene, benzene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and naphthalene--substances found in paint, lacquer and varnish removers.
